What else should I know regarding a wedding in Greece?

How long in advance should I book my wedding?

At least 6-8 months in advance to ensure that the wedding can take place on that date. 

What papers are required for a wedding in Greece?

Please see “legal papers” for what documents are required as this sometimes can also depend on your nationality and country of residence. Therefore you must contact the Greek embassy or consulate in your country.

Important Copies of all the required documents must be sent to us at least 6 weeks in advance so that they can be checked by the Greek authorities here in Greece.  The original documents must be brought with you otherwise the marriage cannot take place. 

Are there any restrictions as to when I can get married?

Weddings can be performed any day of the week.  There is a supplement charge for Weekend marriages are charged. 

Do we need witnesses for the wedding?

Usually two (2) persons are required as witnesses.  If you like we can arrange for these witnesses to be present during the ceremony. 

In what language will the wedding ceremony in Greece be performed?

The wedding ceremony will be performed in the Greek language and then translated after the ceremony in English.  If you wish another language, we can arrange for a translator at an extra charge.

Are there any restrictions as to where I can get married?

Except for church weddings there are very few restrictions as to where you can get married.  Greek law forbids non-Greek Orthodox weddings inside the church building.  For example, your wedding can be held on the beach, at the Fortezza Castle, at the town hall St. Lazarus Registry Office or at another place of your choice.

Can I change my wedding date?

Wedding dates can be changed at an extra charge of 100,0 €.  Further charges may be incurred in cases of the wedding venues. (cancellation or amendment fees)

Will my marriage be valid in my own country?

Yes, civil marriages  celebrated in Greece are accepted in all European and in most other countries.  Should you be a resident of a non-European country, we suggest you ask your country’s authorities.

When will we meet the Wedding Planner?

Upon your arrival, a meeting can be arranged either on the same day or the following day.

Are there any facilities for ironing Wedding dress, Suits etc?

Yes upon your arrival arrangements can be made for ironing services at an extra charge.
